Blog Post #5

The 2008 presidential was a very important one not only due to it's political implications, but also due to it's prominence to social cultures on Earth today.

Impact of the youth vote and technology on the campaign

The impact of the youth vote on the 2008 election was an especially big one. Compared to the generation of peace, love, and drugs of the 1960's, our generation has been expected to make active differences on the world. According to MSNBC , youth votes are the votes that could have pushed Barrack Obama over the edge to win the election.

The use of technology for the 2008 presidential election could have had just as much of an impact on the election as youth votes did. Adequately constructed campaign ads were key in this election to prove whether it was Obama or McCain that the country wanted as their president. Shows such as Saturday Night Live could have been the kryptonite of either of the major presidential parties. Skits mocking presidential party affiliates flooded the October SNL scene, showing at prime time on NBC's line up. Being humans, it is only natural that things we see and hear become 'constitutionalized', meaning that every thing that is seen or heard is automatically true. With this knowledge, SNL battered the Democratic and Republican parties hoping to instill unintelligent and humorous images of presidential party affiliates, into the the minds of millions of SNL watchers.

Implications for the Republican Party

This 2008 presidential election has been a roller coaster for the Republican party. Many people love what the Republican party stands for, however what was brought to the table this year was not of common Republican support. Republicans are generally known to be advocates for 'less government' for example less gun control, but this is not what Americans need. In this article, the writer says that people want to see more action in the government during a very turmoiled time with a failing economy, and proper tax spending within the government. This election has been a huge awakening to the Republican party, that they need to get their views together in order to prove to Americans that voting Republican is what they need to do for a stronger America.

I agree with Drew that youth votes has impacted this election. Also, use of internet encouraged young people to vote. I think people thought the country needed some changes because democratic party is known for progressive mind.

I agree that this election alerted Republicans for changes. I think people did not like the way Bush administration handled issues in America. Also, as mentioned before, I think people wanted some change in America.

-Drew, sorry for not responding to last blog posts

Great views upon both issues! I completely agree with the domination of youth vote and also the change in votes due to technology. I feel Obama did an outstanding job by promoting his stand in the election through technology. Very funny how you mentioned skits on SNL I agree that they had impact on viewer’s votes, which stood undecided on their final vote in the election.
Implication to Republican Party - I feel as if many republicans are very shocked due to the outcome of this election, so shocked that it still hasn't hit some that Barack Obama is our future president. Before I looked into this election to decide upon my vote I thought I stood strong as a republican. Little did I know my whole opinion had changed and I do feel it is about time for the government to step into our economy more and set this "failing economy" straight.
